Symposium 2013: The Realm of the Possible

I’m thrilled to write to you today as the new Director of the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s Symposium! A little more than five years ago, I was honored to be part of a discussion where a new idea was put forward: what if we built a conference for those whose jobs require them to lead the specialty coffee industry? What if we brought together scientists, economists, entrepreneurs, business leaders, influencers, and thought leaders in one place—seeking to set a new standard for coffee dialogue, information, and progress? What could we achieve?

That same year, we introduced our Symposium. Focused on delivering compelling coffee information and interaction to the most committed and intelligent coffee professional, we created a space where leaders could gather, interact, and prepare to lead. Every year since then we’ve gone further, increasing the intensity and scope of the Symposium experience. It’s turned into the most thought-provoking and talked-about event in coffee, and has become a crucible for new ideas in collaboration and innovation in our industry.

Our idea was to evolve and improve Symposium every year. I’m proud to be part of the evolution, as we focus new energy on making Symposium even more informative and engaging for its five-year anniversary! This year we’ll be holding Symposium 2013 at Boston’s historic Harvard Club. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be

Additional Information about Symposium 2013

The Fifth Annual Symposium will be held in Boston, MA, April 10-11, 2013 at the historic Harvard Club. In addition to the onsite programming, the dialogue of Symposium will continue throughout the year in the form of news, videos, discussion, and updates at the recently re-launched Symposium website ( Session videos from the 2012 program will be released over the course of the year leading up to the 2013 event. Additionally, a new program of offsite live Symposium talks, called “Symposium@”, will be presented at select industry events throughout the year. Symposium registration includes entrance to the SCAA Exposition exhibit hall, Opening Ceremonies and Welcome Reception for The Event, and access to the US Barista Championship, US Cup Tasters Championship, USBC Brewers Cup, and the Roasters Guild Roasters Choice Competition. Additionally, Symposium delegates will be able to attend Exposition lectures at no cost and will be qualified to register for a fee for ticketed events and Skill Building Workshops at The Event.
